Book Arts
Content
Develop a creative
and innovative approach to the art and craft of designing and making
books, both as functional artifacts and art pieces. This is the
only course of it's kind in Europe. It provides specialist studies
in: fine print design, fine binding, historical and contemporary
western design, oriental and Islamic design, explorations in form
and function, the book as art, private press and the artist book.
You will acquire
skills in printmaking and fine print, craft bookbinding, drawing
and illustration, photography and creative book practice. Core studies
include computer-aided design (CAD), cultural studies and personal
and professional studies. Concentrate on book art structures and
fine print editions, with a choice of special electives in: advanced
printmaking, design bookbinding, artists' books, historical and
oriental structures, computer graphics.
Assessment
You will be
assessed on practical project work, written assignments and personal
and professional development.
Suitability/Prerequisites
For entry to
Year One you must have completed at least one year of a BFA degree,
GPA 3.0 of higher. For entry to Year Two you must have completed
at least two years of a relevant BFA degree.
