BA (Honours) Publishing
This course has been designed
in the context of the rapidly changing communications field to provide
the flexibility to respond to future changes. It aims to prepare the student
for employment in the publishing industry where opportunities range from
production to editorial and marketing, in both traditional book and magazine
publishing and new media enterprises.
Course Content
This is a three year course.
Study Abroad Students are accepted for year 1 or year 2.
Year 1
Students will gain a contextual
framework for the degree at this stage. They will study modules in Digital
Media Technology and the Printing and Publishing Environment as well as
specialist publishing courses in Publishing Production, the Publishing
Industry, Communication Studies, and Marketing.
Year 2
Students will focus on the
operational issues of managing people and finance, and an in-depth evaluation
of operational aspects of book and magazine publishing. Students study
Design and Desk Top Publishing; and Commissioning and Editing. The Integrative
Project involves the students in a research project which spans several
subject areas.
Assessment
Students are assessed by
coursework and examination at the end of Year 1, and an integrated project
in Year 2. Each full year earns 120 London Institute credits.
Prerequisites
For entry to Year 1, students
must have completed at least one year and be in good standing at an accredited
university with GPA 3.0 or higher. For entry to Year 2, students
must have completed at least one year and be in good standing at an accredited
university with GPA 3.0 or higher. Students must be enrolled and have done
courses in a major related to publishing. Entry is by transcript
and application statement.
