BA (Honours) Film and Video

This is a popular course in film and TV production with a strong theoretical input, which emphasizes co-operative, collaborative and experimental approaches to independent production. Students engage with a variety of film and television practises. These are critically analyzed by examining past and current media structures and institutions, including their social, economic, cultural and aesthetic context.

Throughout the program you will be involved in productions with technical and practical instruction given through workshops, complemented by group tutorials. Lectures and seminars in a wide range of practical subjects, such as current English language production, aspects of world cinema and contemporary European television co-production are underpinned by theoretical investigations.

You will also look at the process of script development, from research and production planning to appreciation of the interaction between crew members, the creative potential of editing, and critical appreciation of the finished production. Students are introduced to broader media and cultural studies debates through a Common Studies Program in which they share classes with photographers, journalists, and media students.
