Aims
This course will focus on the great themes of photography: portrait, landscape and still-life, using traditional and digital media. You will examine the basic aesthetic and technical developments in contemporary practice, as well as the business and professional realities of working today as an image-maker rather than the conventional and rapidly-changing role of professional photographer.
Suitability
You should have the basic skills and abilities that are covered in Developing Skills in Photography or equivalent, or a portfolio which demonstrates provable, established basic photographic skills.
Content
using specialist equipment and materials
different lighting sources tungsten, daylight, flash, types of colour film stock, colour correction/filtration techniques, specialist camera and lens types and hand-held light meters
effective planning, development and realisation of photographic projects
evaluating and selecting black-and-white printing processes
using Adobe Photoshop in the production of digitised photographic images
a creative approach to fundamental professional photographic techniques
producing a professional portfolio in portrait, landscape and still life
potential professional and commercial creative photography when working to a commercial brief
understanding the photographers role and responsibilities in a commercial shoot
